Earlier in the week my friend had invited me out to go get drinks on Tuesday (an invitation I gladly accepted). On Tuesday he called me and told me he had something better than drinks for us to do. Intrigued about what these mysterious plans were I inquired for more information. As it turns out one of his roommate's friends is a promoter for a club called The Box located in the Lower East Side and he was wondering if I wanted to go. Of course I accepted the change of plans. However, this club wasn't just any old club, it was actually a drag burlesque club. I became even more intrigued.
When we got to the club, the promoter friend ushered us in to our private table where we had bottle service and awaited for the show to start. I was sternly warned before that there were absolutely no pictures allowed. Hence, why there is no photographic evidence of this night.
The show was a mix of a raunchy Cirque du Soleil with singing, but with drag queens. It was hands down the most entertaining and strange performance I had ever seen before. The costumes were fabulous and show was extremely entertaining. I mean its a drag show how could it not? I left the club feeling a little strange but that was to be expected.
Wednesday night was much more tame but equally as exciting. Since I am interning at Hearst Publishing this summer, it has opened the door to a plethora of opportunity. One of the perks of working for such a large corporation is that you get invited to events. As an intern I was lucky enough to score an invite to a private all intern screening of the new move The Internship with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, before it released Friday.
With Wedding Crashers being one of my most favorite movies of all time I was extremely excited. The invite also said that there would be a "special guest", but my boss told me not to get my hopes up and that it was probably going to be some B-List actor in the movie.
My new intern friend and I decided to make a night out of our special screening and get dinner before our show. Our plus ones (her sister and my friend from college) had an awesome sushi dinner before we headed over to the AMC Theater in Times Square to catch our movie.
When we arrived there was a special booth set up where we got our names checked off a list, handed our ticket and a "Intern" shirt, and headed to find some seats. Being a little late we were stuck with second row seats. (Which would pay of later...)
We anxiously awaited our "special guest" to arrived and gossiped with other interns over who we thought it would be. Then from the back of the theater, bright camera lights and a video camera came in and following them was none other than VINCE VAUGHN!!! The crowed erupted in applause and cheers as he took the mic and headed to the front of the room. (See! Being in the second row totally paid off!!!) I snapped some blurry pictures so I apologize for the quality.
Taking some questions |
Working the room |
He worked the crowd for a little, introduced the movie, and did a quick Q&A about his work on The Internship with some real interns. He is as funny in real life as he is in his movies. He's also as tall as he looks too. His new movie did not disappoint either. If you have time this weekend definitely check out The Internship. I highly recommend it due to Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson's comedic brilliance throughout the film.
When I came out of the movie theater and walked onto the bustling bright streets of Times Square, I thought to myself, that New York really has to be the most interesting city in the world. It keeps proving me right everyday. Until next time. xxx
Think I can rock this sweet intern shirt at work tomorrow? |
