An afternoon in the park

Today was the epitome of the "perfect day" in the city. It was the kind of day you wake up and know something good is going to happen. To start things off, the weather was perfect. Sunny and 75 with a light breeze. Seriously...what is better than that? I skipped to work because I was so euphoric over how beautiful the weather was.  (To my dismay I had to be trapped inside the office all day rather than frolic in the park which is what I really wanted to do.)

However, after work I made it a mission to do two things: 1. Try a new restaurant in New York, and 2. Enjoy a few blissful moment in my favorite park.

To accomplish the first thing on my short list I decided to head over to Doughnut Plant for a little afternoon treat. If you haven't been there and live in the city...GOOOOO. Even though you slip into a sugary coma after your doughnuts, at least you'll be in a happy coma.

After much deliberation over all my options,  I decided on the Salted Peanut Cake Doughnut, and the Crème brûlée Doughseed. Needless to say I made some wise decisions.

With my sweet confections in hand, I headed over to Madison Square Park, which is quickly becoming my favorite part of the city.

Warning: Contains Deliciousness
I found a shady spot underneath a tree and cozied up with a good book and some good food. I decided to not be too glutinous and only have one doughnut and save the other one for later. I know..self control right?

I started with the Salted Peanut Cake Doughnut. The first bite was the most intriguing doughnut I've ever tasted. It had a light cake texture that wasn't dry and had a rich peanut flavor. The icing was not too sweet and had crunchy salty peanut pieces sprinkled throughout. The mix of salty sweet was the perfect afternoon treat for the park.

It did taste as good as it looked
The Crème brûlée Doughseed was also amazing. ( I had it for my dessert after dinner) It was a lighter batter than the cake doughnut and had a sticky sweet brunt sugar coating on-top. Inside there was a lighter than air vanilla bean custard that literally melted into your mouth. I was highly impressed with both doughnuts and will be back very soon.

After I indulged in the treats, I decided to indulge in my book. I also has an amazing view which didn't hurt.
Look at that sky

After an hour or two in the park, I moseyed home, wondering how I got so lucky. xxx
